Chinggis Khaan International Airport, International airport in Khöshig Valley, Mongolia
Chinggis Khaan International Airport sits in Khöshig Valley within Töv Province and connects the capital with domestic and international destinations. The facility includes a large terminal building with separate arrival and departure areas plus a long runway for wide-body aircraft.
The facility opened in July 2021 and replaced the former capital airport from the 1950s. The move allowed for greater capacity and more modern facilities for the growing number of connections from Asia and Europe.
The terminal carries the name of Mongolia's founding ruler in its modern Mongolian form. Local travelers and international guests experience here the gateway to the plateau's open horizons and its own distinct time zone.
The airport lies roughly an hour's drive south of Ulaanbaatar and connects the country to destinations across Asia and Europe plus eleven domestic routes. The terminal is clearly structured for arrivals and departures, making it easier to navigate connecting flights.
The location in Khöshig Valley offers views of the Mongolian steppe during descent on clear days. The facility's cargo building can receive and handle specialized shipments including temperature-sensitive goods or live animals.
