La Borsa, Neoclassical building in Valletta, Malta.
La Borsa is a neoclassical building in Valletta distinguished by a symmetrical colonnade in Ionic order across its facade. The structure has three floors above ground, one basement level, and multiple specialized areas including the Lewis Farrugia Courtyard and the Sir Agostino Portelli Hall.
In 1853, the chamber of commerce acquired a property belonging to the Priory of Castile, which was demolished to make way for new construction. The completed building in 1857 became the first purpose-built chamber of commerce headquarters on the island.
The building serves as headquarters for Malta's chamber of commerce and regularly hosts business gatherings and discussions. People from different economic sectors meet here to debate issues that shape life on the island.
The building is located in the historic old city and easily accessible on foot, with multiple entrances serving different functional areas. Visitors should know that certain rooms may be reserved for private functions, and opening hours can vary.
The building was designed by Giuseppe Bonavia, a locally-based architect whose design reflected Malta's economic importance during the British Empire period. The site previously held spaces belonging to a religious institution before the transformation began.
