Sungbo's Eredo, Archaeological fortification system in Ijebu Ode, Nigeria.
The defensive system consists of walls and ditches extending over 160 kilometers, with height differences reaching 20 meters between ditch bottom and bank rim.
Local builders constructed this massive earthwork between 800 and 1000 AD, creating a ring structure around the ancient Ijebu Kingdom during times of political conflict.
The site bears the name of noblewoman Bilikisu Sungbo, whose burial place receives regular visits from pilgrims of different religious backgrounds.
The walls and ditches form a continuous circuit through dense vegetation, requiring visitors to follow designated paths to explore the archaeological remains.
Archaeological findings at the site include small conical idol statues positioned at the bottom of ditches, indicating ancient ritualistic practices of local communities.
