Nieuwleusen is a village in the Salland region of Overijssel, positioned between the Vecht and Reest rivers. The surrounding landscape consists of agricultural fields and meadows, with the Nieuwleusener Hulsterplas lake adding to the rural character of the area.
The village began forming in the early 1600s when the Luessener Compagnie was established in 1631, initiating the clearing and cultivation of lands north of Leusen. This development marked the start of organized settlement and economic growth in the area.
