Norg, Rural settlement in Noordenveld municipality, Netherlands.
Norg is a rural village in Noordenveld municipality in northeastern Netherlands. The settlement features traditional Dutch buildings set within a landscape of forests and farmland that extends across the low-lying terrain.
The settlement was first recorded in 1149 and grew as a farming village with shared grazing lands and communal structures. A church built in the 13th century with a distinctive saddle-roof tower still marks the center of the village.
The village is home to two preserved mills that shaped local life for generations: one from 1878 and another featuring a rare sail system found nowhere else in the country. These structures remain visible landmarks that connect residents and visitors to the area's heritage.
The village has regular bus service to nearby larger cities and local shops within easy reach. An extensive network of cycling paths runs through the surrounding forests and fields, making it simple to explore the countryside by bike.
From 1912 to 1982, the forests surrounding the village hosted an international motocross racing circuit that drew competitors from across Europe. This motorsport chapter has largely faded, but it remains a hidden part of the village's story that many visitors never discover.
