Barendrecht extends across 21.74 square kilometers of land near Rotterdam, featuring residential districts, business parks, and agricultural areas along the Oude Maas river.
The municipality originated from three medieval fiefdoms - East-Barendrecht, West-Barendrecht, and Carnisse - which merged during the French period in the early 19th century.
The Little Diver functions as an educational agricultural museum where visitors learn about traditional Dutch farming methods, fruit cultivation, and livestock management.
The Barendrecht railway station connects to multiple rail lines while the A15 and A29 motorways provide direct access to Rotterdam and surrounding municipalities.
