Amstelpark, Urban park in Amsterdam-Zuid, Netherlands
Amstelpark is an urban green space in Amsterdam-Zuid with several distinct areas to explore. It features flower gardens, a petting zoo, art exhibition spaces, playgrounds, and a small train that carries visitors around the grounds.
The park opened in 1972 for the Floriade, an international horticultural exhibition held once every ten years in the Netherlands. After this event, the site was permanently established as a public park and has continued to develop over time.
Two exhibition spaces, the Glass House and the Orangerie, display contemporary art installations while integrating nature with cultural programming throughout the year.
The park can be reached through the main entrance on Europaboulevard and is served by public transport nearby. Once inside, marked pathways guide visitors to different sections without difficulty.
The park contains a rhododendron valley where dozens of different varieties grow in large numbers, some reaching substantial heights. This specialized collection demonstrates the remarkable diversity of these flowering shrubs.
