Abe Lenstra Stadion, football stadium in Heerenveen, Netherlands
The Abe Lenstra Stadion is the home ground of SC Heerenveen, a football club in the northern Dutch province of Friesland, with a capacity of around 27,000 seats across fully covered stands. The pitch is natural grass, and the ground also has event spaces and hospitality areas alongside the main seating.
The ground opened in 1994, replacing the older field where SC Heerenveen had played for decades before. The first match was a friendly against PSV, with the kickoff made by Prince Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands.
The stadium is named after Abe Lenstra, one of the most celebrated Dutch players of the 20th century, who was born in Heerenveen. Before every home match, fans sing the Frysk Folksliet, a Frisian folk song that reflects the strong bond between the club and its regional roots.
The ground is a short walk from Heerenveen train station and is easy to reach on foot or by bike from the town center. Guided tours are available on non-match days and take visitors through areas like the locker rooms and the press zone.
In 2024, the ground hosted a match from the UEFA Women's Nations League Finals, one of the few times a top-level international women's tournament has come to Heerenveen. Outside of football, the venue is regularly used for concerts and conferences, drawing people who have no connection to the club at all.
