Hilma Hooker, ship
Hilma Hooker is a shipwreck lying on the seafloor off the coast of Bonaire at a depth accessible to divers. The vessel measures approximately 72 meters in length and now serves as an artificial reef where fish and coral growth have colonized the structure.
The ship was built in 1951 and sank in 1984 after being abandoned by its crew off the coast of Bonaire. The wreck was intentionally left on the seafloor and has since become a popular diving destination.
The wreck sits at a depth suitable for experienced divers with generally good underwater visibility. It is easily accessible from the shore, and several local dive operators offer guided excursions to the site.
The vessel was involved in illegal smuggling operations and was seized by authorities before it sank. This hidden past makes it more than just a dive site – it carries a story of contraband and abandonment.
