Groenoordhallen, Entertainment centre in Leiden, Netherlands
Groenoordhallen was an entertainment venue in Leiden with large halls designed for concerts and trade shows. The building featured modern sound and lighting systems capable of hosting thousands of visitors at a time.
The venue served as a cattle market hub for many decades before that trade ended in 2005. The building was demolished in 2010 and replaced with new residential and office development.
Many international performers graced the stage of Groenoordhallen, including Queen, Def Leppard, Kiss, The Police, and U2 throughout its operational period.
The site was centrally located in Leiden with good public transport connections. Parking and road access from the city center made it convenient for visitors arriving by car or bus.
After demolition, original bricks and steel beams from the old building were salvaged and incorporated into the new residential and office buildings on the site. This material reuse preserved a physical connection to the venue's past.
