City Campus Max, Student housing complex in Transwijk, Utrecht, Netherlands
City Campus Max is a housing complex in Utrecht consisting of three connected towers of varying heights. Two rental towers rise 22 floors while the owner-occupied tower reaches 15 floors, all built on a shared base that includes ground-level shops and services.
The project began in 2009 under Bouwfonds Ontwikkeling to address growing student housing demand in Utrecht. Klunder Architecten designed the structure specifically to meet this need.
The complex creates meeting spaces through shared terraces on multiple levels, where residents and visitors naturally gather. These communal areas serve as everyday meeting points for the people living here.
The building offers extensive bicycle storage and underground parking. Visitors can explore the ground-floor shops and dining options when visiting or taking a break.
Each apartment unit uses a standardized 24-square-meter design built with specialized formwork techniques. This approach allows spaces to be reconfigured in the future as living needs change.
