Netkous-viaduct, Railway bridge in Beatrixkwartier, Netherlands
The Netkous viaduct is a railway bridge in The Hague with an open tubular steel frame that spans across Prinses Beatrixlaan. The structure connects several transit points and allows tram lines to pass over the business district.
The bridge was built between 2004 and 2006 and connected The Hague's tram network with the Zoetermeer City Line, previously operated by Nederlandse Spoorwegen. This infrastructure project was crucial for modernizing public transit in the region.
The tubular steel frame was designed by Zwarts & Jansma Architects and displays the geometric patterns of modern Dutch engineering. Many people from the business district pass under and over this construction daily.
The structure carries tram lines 3, 4, and 34 of the RandstadRail system daily, with a station at Beatrixkwartier for convenient access. The area is straightforward to reach and provides good connections to the business district and other neighborhoods.
Each segment of the viaduct received specialized protective coating treatment in a temporary facility made from shipping containers during the assembly phase. This unusual approach allowed efficient and controlled processing of all parts before final assembly.
