Passenger Terminal Amsterdam, cruise terminal in Amsterdam, Netherlands
Passenger Terminal Amsterdam is a cruise terminal on Piet Heinkade in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Its glass building is shaped like a large wave and sits directly on the IJ River, with a dock stretching for 600 meters alongside.
The terminal opened in 2000, replacing a small passenger station on the same spot. In late 2016, plans were announced to move it because the city center location felt too crowded.
The passenger hall is often rented out for fairs and events, so the building changes purpose depending on the day. Visitors can see large gatherings inside while cruise travelers move through the same space.
The terminal is easy to reach on foot from the city center, taking about ten minutes. Trams also stop right next to the building, and the nearby walking route follows the water.
Since 2005, the terminal has had tram service that runs directly to the building on the IJtram line. It also has an electrical supply system that lets docked ships turn off their diesel engines.
