Peize, Rural settlement in Drenthe, Netherlands
Peize is a rural village in Drenthe province that sits between the towns of Roden and Eelde. The settlement has a scattered layout with farms and homes spread across flat farmland.
The village functioned as an independent municipality from 1817 until 1998, when it was combined with other communities to form Noordenveld. This merger reflected a broader trend of administrative consolidation across the region.
The Johanneskerk church sits in the center of the village as a landmark from medieval times, featuring a 17th-century organ inside. Around it stand roughly twenty protected buildings that give the settlement its character.
The village has two schools located near sports facilities that serve the local population. It connects easily to neighboring towns by car or bicycle along the surrounding roads.
North of the village lies De Onlanden, a large water retention zone that protects nearby Groningen from flooding. This nature area also shelters many plant and animal species.
