Huis te Voorn, Historic château near Leidse Rijn intersection, Utrecht, Netherlands.
Huis te Voorn is a manor estate near Utrecht with a white-plastered house standing at the entrance to the former castle grounds. The property spans about 8 hectares in a triangular layout, surrounded by carefully maintained gardens and landscaped areas.
The estate was first recorded in 1395 as a farmstead when Gerrit van Voorn received the land there. In 1539 it received recognition as a noble holding, leading to renovations and expansions over the following decades.
The name comes from the Van Voorn family, who shaped and maintained the estate across generations. Visitors can still see traces of this long connection in the surviving buildings and landscaped grounds today.
The grounds lie west of the A2 motorway, positioned between the Rhijnoord viaduct and the Leidsche Rijn tunnel. Visitors should note that the property is generously laid out with walking opportunities across the different sections.
Two preserved dovecotes stand on the island where the main castle once stood before it was demolished in 1851. These buildings give a glimpse of how the estate was organized in earlier times.
