Museum Voorlinden, Art museum in Wassenaar, Netherlands
Museum Voorlinden is an art museum in Wassenaar housed in a contemporary building of glass and concrete, surrounded by gardens and dune landscape. The rooms spread across two levels with large windows opening views to the outdoors.
The building opened in 2016 following designs by Rijnen Architecten on the grounds of a private contemporary art collection. The architects integrated the existing gardens into the new concept and created a publicly accessible space.
The name refers to the fields that once lay in front of the estate before becoming part of the grounds. Visitors today see works by Dutch and international artists who often experiment with light and space.
The museum opens daily from 11:00 to 17:00 and requires advance booking during special exhibitions. The outdoor areas can be explored on foot and connect art with nature along short paths.
Some sculptures stand directly in front of the windows and frame the view like living paintings. The connection between indoor and outdoor spaces blurs the boundary between exhibition hall and landscape.
