Borger, Medieval village in Drenthe, Netherlands.
Borger is a historic village in Drenthe in northern Netherlands, situated on the Hondsrug ridge. The settlement spans several districts with a mix of traditional architecture and newer residential areas.
The settlement was first documented in writing in 1327 and maintained its independence for more than 600 years. It merged with neighboring Odoorn in 1998 to form the municipality of Borger-Odoorn.
The Reformed church tower has anchored community life in the center since the 14th century. It remains a gathering point where locals and visitors encounter the spiritual roots of village life.
The village is accessible by bike and car, though set apart from major highways. Visitors can navigate the typical Dutch village layout with local shops and cafes for a comfortable stop.
Just outside the village stands the largest stone dolmen in the Netherlands, an ancient burial monument from prehistoric times. This remarkable structure draws curious visitors wanting to understand the area's earliest inhabitants.
