Sint Luciakerk, Ravenstein

Sint Luciakerk is a church with a square floor plan that has chamfered corners and a distinctive octagonal tower topped by a dome under a mansard roof. The interior holds several religious furnishings, altars, confessionals, pews, an organ, and stained glass windows.

This building was constructed in 1735 using funds raised through a lottery system in Ravenstein. It replaced an earlier Jesuit chapel that had been built after a major city fire in the early 1600s.

The church takes its name from Saint Lucia, reflecting its role as a spiritual center for the local community. Visitors can observe original furnishings throughout the interior that define how the space functions for worship.

The building is located on Sint Luciastraat and is easy to spot from the outside. Keep in mind it is an active place of worship, so respectful behavior and appropriate dress are expected.

This is one of the few Baroque Catholic churches built in this region during a time of religious restrictions. The unusual funding method through a lottery made this project a community effort among local residents.
