Statenpassage

Statenpassage is a connecting hallway in Binnenhof that links multiple sections of the Dutch House of Representatives complex. The passage contains small office rooms behind vertical slats along the walls where members meet regularly with ministers and senior officials.

The passage opened in 1992 as part of an expansion project that incorporated former ministry buildings and a historic hotel into the parliamentary complex. This renovation modernized the infrastructure and created new spaces for parliamentary work.

The marble floor shows patterns reminiscent of wet beach sand, while steel cables support an art installation featuring maritime motifs. These details reflect the nation's deep connection to water and create a distinctive character as you walk through.

Advance registration through the parliamentary website is required, and visitors must bring identification documents to enter the complex during working hours. It is wise to register early as spaces can fill up and hours may vary on different days.

Steel cables visibly span the full length of the ceiling, giving the space an unusual technical quality not typical of government buildings. This structural approach allowed architects to keep the interior flexible while working within a historic complex.
