Toren van Spannenburg, Telecommunication tower in Skarsterlân, Netherlands

The concrete tower stands 118 meters tall near the Princess Margriet Canal at the intersection of N354 and the road to Tjerkgaast.

The tower, constructed between 1971 and 1973, opened on May 27, 1974, with Mayor Johan Caspar Cavaljé releasing carrier pigeons during the ceremony.

The structure represents the advancement of Dutch telecommunications, serving as a central hub for radio stations including Radio Veronica and Radio 538.

The tower contains 22 floors supported by 72 foundation piles, each measuring 23 meters in length, with a floor dedicated to data center services.

Since March 2023, the tower functions as a backup transmitter for television broadcasts, providing NPO channels at 626 MHz frequency.
