Watertoren, Water tower in IJmuiden-Noord, Netherlands.
The Watertoren Evertsenstraat is a water storage tower in the water supply complex of IJmuiden-Noord, built to hold and distribute water to the surrounding area. The site includes the main tower alongside associated buildings that together served the regional water infrastructure.
The complex was built between 1914 and 1915 to supply the growing population of IJmuiden with water. After operating for decades as an active facility, it was taken out of service in the 1980s and later adapted for new purposes.
The tower displays geometric forms typical of early 20th-century industrial design, blending practical function with architectural intention. Visitors can observe how the structure was conceived as both a utility and a piece of industrial art.
The location sits in a park-like setting on the edge of the city, easily reached from central IJmuiden. Note that the main tower is not open to the public, as it has been converted into residential apartments.
The auxiliary building beside the tower was converted into a medical practice and pharmacy, showing how industrial sites have been repurposed for community use over time. This transformation allowed the protected site to remain a functional part of the neighborhood.
