Malburgen, Residential district in Arnhem, Netherlands
Malburgen is a residential district south of the Rhine River in Arnhem divided into five sections: East-North, East-South, West, Immerloo, and Het Duifje. Two bridges cross to northern Arnhem while the A325 road connects to major highways A12 and A50.
Development began in 1937 when Arnhem started its first expansion south of the Rhine with residential construction across the river. The neighborhood has grown since then to become an established part of the city.
The neighborhood reflects the backgrounds of its residents through shops, restaurants, and street life that shows many cultural influences from around the world. Walking through the different sections reveals how communities have shaped local spaces with their own traditions and ways of living.
The area is easy to reach with good road connections and bridges linking to other neighborhoods. Green zones and floodplain areas offer space to walk and explore beyond the residential blocks.
The neighborhood preserves substantial green spaces and wetland areas within an urban residential setting, which sets it apart from typical neighborhoods. This blend of homes and natural zones creates an unexpected character for such a development area.
