Blauwpoortsbrug, Rolling lift bridge in central Leiden, Netherlands.
The iron bridge spans the Galgewater, connecting Turfmarkt and Beestenmarkt with five semi-circular arches on each side and granite decorative elements.
Built between 1910 and 1911 by architect Johan Rückert, this structure replaced an 1866 swing bridge that required updates for horse-drawn trams.
The name Blauwpoortsbrug derives from the former Blue Gate, a city entrance that stood at the beginning of Haarlemmerstraat until the 19th century.
The bridge features a wooden deck supported by iron girders, serving pedestrians and cyclists while the former bridgekeeper's house now functions as a fish shop.
The bridge contains an electric rolling bascule mechanism concealed within an adjacent structure, making it different from typical exposed counterweight designs.
