Sjûkelân, Sports venue in Franeker, Netherlands
Sjûkelân features two 18.6-meter towers designed by architect Rein Hofstra that stand prominently within the sports complex grounds since 2003.
The land transformed from the site of Sjaerdemaslot castle to agricultural fields before becoming the permanent location for kaats competitions in 1856.
The venue holds the annual PC-kaatspartij, a traditional Frisian ball game competition that brings together athletes and spectators from across the region.
The location offers multiple access points and maintains facilities specifically designed for hosting large-scale sporting events and outdoor gatherings.
The name Sjûkelân derives from Nicolaas Sjoeck, who rented the land in 1770 after the city of Franeker acquired the property.
