Fort near De Kwakel

Fort near De Kwakel is a military fortification located near Uithoorn with 18 rooms contained within its main structure and two throat casemates positioned beside the central building. The overall layout reflects late 19th century defense architecture designed to protect the surrounding region.

Construction of this fortification began in 1890 and required extensive digging through peatland before large quantities of sand were deposited for structural stability. The structure was positioned strategically as part of a larger defense network meant to protect the region around Amsterdam.
