De Roosdonck, Historical windmill in Nuenen, Netherlands
De Roosdonck is a round stone mill on a small hill with traditional Dutch wooden structure. It functions as a gristmill and displays the typical architecture of working mills with wheels and machinery still visible today.
The mill was built in 1883, but the original construction partially collapsed, leading to a changed design. It was then rebuilt with a narrower tower than other mills of that era.
The miller and his trade remain visible here. You can see how the mill wheel grinds grain and understand the role these mills played in village life.
The site is visible from the outside and easily accessible on its hill. It is good to visit early in the day when light is better and the surroundings are less crowded.
An artist from the past sketched this mill several times, making it a known subject. A replica of this mill now stands in a park in China, showing how far the story of this place travels.
