Mariakerk, church in Tilburg
Mariakerk is a church in Tilburg's Heikant neighborhood with Neo-Gothic design and a prominent central nave. The building features two lower side aisles, a distinctive crossing tower, and forms part of a larger complex that includes a rectory.
The church was designed and consecrated in 1873 by architect J.C. van den Heuvel to serve the growing Catholic community in Heikant. From 1964 onwards, Norbertine monks have occupied the building, a religious order that continues to maintain it today.
The church is dedicated to the Immaculate Conception, reflecting its importance to the Catholic community in Tilburg. Visitors and worshippers gather here for services and gatherings that keep the space alive and connected to local life.
The building is located at De Schans 121 and is publicly accessible as a protected monument. Visitors should note that the church is primarily an active place of worship, so it is best to check access times before visiting.
A Norbertus chapel was added in 1997 and offers a quiet space for prayer and reflection. This later addition shows how the building has adapted to meet the needs of its community across generations.
