The industrial complex spans 24 hectares with multiple buildings featuring large windows and saw-tooth roofs that provide natural light throughout the workshops.
The Dutch Iron Railway Company established this central workshop in 1904 after their Haarlem facility became insufficient for maintenance operations.
The former railway buildings now house cultural spaces, including the TeKa group events venue and Holland Opera performances in the blacksmith workshop.
The site transforms into a mixed-use development with apartments while maintaining its industrial character through preserved historical structures.
More than 200 railway workers relocated from Haarlem to Amersfoort after losing their jobs during strikes, forming a new railway community.
