Drie Beeldjes, Calvary statue group in Oud-Valkenburg, Netherlands
Drie Beeldjes is a religious statue group positioned near the Schaelsbergerbos forest at a path crossing. It depicts Christ on the cross with figures of Mary and John placed on either side.
The niches for Mary and John were created in 1739, while the crucifix was renewed around 1900 with a neo-gothic base and a Saint Rochus statue added. These changes show how the monument evolved over two centuries.
The statues stand at a crossing of walking routes and still serve as a spiritual landmark for locals and visitors. They link everyday paths with spaces for quiet reflection.
The monument is reached via the walking path from Schin op Geul to Valkenburg, which runs alongside the bridge crossing the Geul River. The location is fairly easy to access for those using local hiking trails.
Behind the statues lies a small quarry site known as Groeve bij de Drie Beeldjes, which holds geological and natural interest. This combination links religious meaning with natural heritage in one location.
