Sint Servatiuskerk, Schijndel

Sint Servatiuskerk is a brick Gothic church building in Schijndel with a distinctive tower containing an octagonal staircase that rises vertically through two levels marked by a stone band. Inside, a large organ from the 1800s provides musical accompaniment with multiple keyboards and numerous stops for sound variation.

The structure as it stands today was built in 1839 using materials salvaged from an earlier building and funded by state support. Engineering oversight from a water management specialist ensured the project met standards of the era.

The building is named after Saint Servatius and holds a burial monument featuring a naval officer of significant rank with a commemorative text by a renowned poet. This connection links the religious space to the memory of an important figure in Dutch maritime history.

The building sits directly on the central market square in Schijndel and is easy to reach on foot from most parts of town. Keep in mind that climbing the spiral staircase in the tower requires some fitness and careful steps due to its narrow, winding design.

A bell hanging in the tower from 1686 remains notable for its mysterious origins, as the name of the craftsman who cast it has been lost to time. This ancient bell still rings today alongside two much younger bells added in the mid-1900s.
