Artis Planetarium, Planetarium in Plantage, Netherlands
Artis Planetarium is a dome theater with digital projections showing stars, constellations, and space phenomena across its full ceiling. The shows run for about 45 minutes in a fully immersive setting where the projected sky surrounds you completely.
The planetarium opened in 1988 as part of Artis Zoo, expanding the educational mission of the Netherlands oldest zoological garden. Its projection technology has been updated several times to show the latest discoveries about space.
The planetarium connects exploration of the cosmos with everyday understanding of our world through programs that show Earth's position in space. Visitors experience how celestial events relate to life on our planet.
Shows are offered in Dutch and English, with admission included in your Artis Zoo ticket so no separate payment is needed. The dome theater has comfortable seating and is air conditioned, though space fills up quickly during busy hours.
During the Expedition Solar System show you can choose different exploration routes through the planets at your own pace. This interactive structure lets each visitor create their own journey through space rather than following a single fixed path.
