Termunten kerk, Medieval church in Termunten, Netherlands
Termunten kerk is a brick church in Delfzijl that stands on an artificial hill next to a protective dike in northern Netherlands. The building displays pointed arch niches and round windows that are typical of the Romano-Gothic style found in this region.
The building dates to 1275 and was constructed on foundations from the 12th century. It originally served as a larger cruciform church before being reduced to keep only the Romano-Gothic choir in its current form.
The church bears the name of Saint Ursus of Solothurn and displays typical features of northern brick architecture inside. The building reflects the religious importance this place held for the local community across centuries.
The church is best reached via Petrus Muntinghepad 11 where the entrance is located. During the warmer months from May to October, visitors can climb the tower and explore the interior on Sunday afternoons.
The church received a restored Lohman organ in 2010 that replaced the original instrument lost during World War II. After 65 years without music, the building came alive with sound again.
