Watertoren Zwolle, Water tower in Zwolle, Netherlands.
The Watertoren Zwolle rises 36 meters into the sky and features a distinctive red ceramic tile facade with a glass stairwell connecting two architectural sections.
Built in 1892 by architect Jan Schotel, the tower stored 500 cubic meters of water and received an additional stone wall enclosure during renovations in 1959.
The structure received the Erfgoedprijs 2019 Heritage Award from Zwolle and Kampen municipalities for its transformation from industrial infrastructure to residential space.
Between 2017 and 2018, developers converted the former water tower into 21 residential apartments, with one unit per floor from levels one through six.
The renovation project uncovered the original nineteenth-century core of the building, which had remained hidden behind a protective facade for nearly sixty years.
