Market Hall, Indoor market hall in Rotterdam, Netherlands

The Markthal features a horseshoe-shaped structure with glass facades, rising 40 meters high and extending 120 meters across Rotterdam's center.

The building's construction in 2009 led to significant archaeological findings, including medieval artifacts now displayed in the Time Stairway exhibition.

The interior ceiling displays the Horn of Plenty, an 11,000-square-meter artwork depicting colorful fruits and vegetables against a bright background.

The building houses 26 elevators, spans 16 floors, and contains more than 12,000 square meters of retail space for food vendors and restaurants.

The Markthal combines residential apartments within its arched structure while functioning as the first covered food market in the Netherlands.

Tourist attractions in Rotterdam

Rotterdam combines modern architecture, museums, parks and historic locations. The Maritime Museum, Erasmus Bridge, Euromast and cubic houses mark the cityscape. The Market Hall, zoo and art museums form the cultural offerings.

Architecture by Winy Maas in Europe and Asia

The architectural projects of Dutch architect Winy Maas, MVRDV co-founder, showcase modern design across Europe and Asia. His structures combine functionality with experimental forms: from Rotterdam's Markthal with integrated housing to the public art depot Boijmans. These buildings define cityscapes through innovative solutions for residential, cultural, and office spaces.
