Galamadammen, Rural hamlet in Súdwest-Fryslân, Netherlands.
Galamadammen is a small settlement between Koudum and Hemelum in Friesland with several marinas and holiday parks along the Johan Frisokanaal waterway. The location functions as a stopping point for water tourists and offers various accommodation options on site.
The Galama family settled in this area before 1100 and was granted toll collection rights in 1628. This privilege continued until 1942, when the family sold these rights.
The settlement connects to traditional Frisian water sports through the Skûtsje Galamadammen vessel, which regularly takes part in regional sailing competitions. This link shows how life on the water has long been central to local identity.
The location is easily accessible along the waterway and has several modern marinas with boat docking facilities. Basic services such as restaurants and shops are available here and in the nearby town of Koudum.
A remarkably long aqueduct crosses the N359 road and was completed in 2007 to allow boats to pass through. The structure simultaneously connects walking and cycling paths for visitors traveling on land.
