Circumvallatielinie

Circumvallatielinie is a fortification system near Groenlo made of earthen ramparts and ditches forming a circular ring around the town. The structure includes several connected walls and bastions spread across the landscape.

It was built in 1627 during the Siege of Grol to protect the town from Spanish armies during the conflict between the Netherlands and Spain. This fortification became a key defensive structure in that era of warfare.
