Landgoed Schothorst

Landgoed Schothorst is an estate with extensive gardens, wooded areas, and a central building called Het Groene Huis that functions as an environmental education center. The grounds feature walking paths connecting themed gardens, a natural playground, an observatory, and a reconstructed medieval farm.

The property was established in 1780, and a villa named Schothorst was built in the 19th century as the main residence. Its conversion to an educational facility allowed the historical structures to remain in public use.

The estate reflects a historical garden culture that remains visible in its designed landscapes and wooded corridors. You can experience here how nature and human design have been combined over time.

Allow plenty of time to explore the different areas spread across the grounds, as walking between sections takes longer than it might first appear. Wear sturdy footwear since the paths pass through natural areas and can become slippery in wet weather.

A stainless steel sundial artwork stands on the grounds, precisely aligned with Earth's axis to show both time and seasonal dates. This two-and-a-half-meter sculpture merges astronomy with spatial design in an unexpected way.
