Kleiburg

Kleiburg is a long residential complex with around 500 apartments spread across 10 floors in a curved slab design. The building features common spaces like workshops and childcare centers at ground level, while storage was moved upstairs to make room for shared facilities.

The building was constructed in 1971 as part of Amsterdam's large-scale urban expansion plan. It was designed following modern architectural principles of that era aimed at creating new housing solutions for the growing city.

The transformation into Klusflats gave residents the chance to buy unfinished apartments and design them to match their own tastes and needs. This hands-on approach helped people feel more connected to their homes and their community.

Kleiburg remains one of the last original honeycomb-shaped structures in Bijlmermeer after most similar buildings were demolished or heavily modified during the area's major renovation in the 1990s. Its survival makes it a rare example of the neighborhood's architectural past.
