Selwerd I, II en III, Student residence complex in Selwerd district, Groningen, Netherlands.
Selwerd I, II, and III are three residential towers with eleven floors each in the Selwerd district. Together they house nearly one thousand students with renovated bathrooms and fiber optic internet access.
The three towers were built between 1969 and 1970 by architects P. Bügel and J. v.d. Dijk. They were constructed to meet the growing need for student housing in Groningen at that time.
The three buildings are named after plants: Cornus, Acero, and Dragant. Each floor has shared kitchens and living rooms where students meet and spend time together.
The complex is located near the Zernike campus of both universities in the city. Visitors should expect an active student environment with plenty of activity and gathering spaces throughout the buildings.
The residential towers have a direct view of the Selwerderhof cemetery. This unexpected closeness between student life and a place of rest creates a memorable contrast in the neighborhood.
