Ambachtschool Sint-Maartenslaan, Trade school building in Sint Maartenspoort, Maastricht, Netherlands.
Ambachtschool Sint-Maartenslaan is a trade school building in Maastricht constructed with red brick and a T-shaped floor plan. The structure has two main floors, a basement level, a mansard roof, and symmetrical design divided into three distinct volumes.
The building was designed in 1911 by architects Burgers and Charels and served as a vocational training center for more than 70 years before closing in 1983. Following this period, the site underwent transformation for new uses.
The facade displays educational plaques with tool illustrations and Dutch inscriptions that express values of learning and craftsmanship. These artistic details tell the story of the building's role as a place where people learned practical trades.
The building is located at Sint Maartenslaan 26 and underwent major renovation between 2022 and 2024. Following the restoration, it was adapted as part of a major corporate headquarters.
The entrance features natural stone architraves with pilasters and rounded arches, paired with double balcony doors and a central plaque reading Technische School. These refined stone details at the main entry highlight learning as a value embedded in the building's architectural language.
