Heempark De Tenellaplas

Heempark De Tenellaplas is a three-hectare nature garden featuring a dune pond nestled between excavated slopes in a coastal setting. The site supports more than 300 plant species distributed across varied habitats such as wetlands and forest areas.

A botanist established this garden in 1948 as an educational space following years of work at a plant nursery and other garden projects. His horticultural expertise enabled the creation of a nature site with diverse habitats.

The garden functions as a place where visitors connect with native plant life and natural habitats found in the Dutch dunes. People come here to understand the ecosystems that shape this coastal region.

The site is best visited from May through August during school holidays when it opens daily. During other times of year, access is available on Wednesday afternoons and weekends.

From April to September, visitors can observe fourteen different orchid species along with gentians and dune roses in their natural setting. These rare blooms appear during this season and define the garden's visual character.
