LocHal, Municipal monument in Spoorzone Tilburg, Netherlands
LocHal is a protected monument in Tilburg's Spoorzone, designed with large glass facades, wooden staircases, and preserved industrial elements throughout. The structure contains workspaces, meeting rooms, a cafe with city views, and cultural facilities spread across approximately 11,000 square meters.
The building was constructed in 1932 as a locomotive maintenance workshop for Dutch Railways and operated in this capacity for decades. After the municipality purchased it in 2010, it underwent extensive transformation to become a cultural and community hub.
The building houses the Central Brabant Library, Kunstloc Brabant art institution, and exhibition spaces displaying regional creative work. Visitors experience how these spaces support local artists and cultural activities throughout the year.
The building is located next to Tilburg Central Station, making it easy to reach by public transport or on foot. Visitors should check ahead to see which exhibitions, libraries, or events are open, as different areas serve different purposes.
The interior features an innovative system of automated textile curtains covering about 4,000 square meters, developed in collaboration with TextielLab. These curtains allow the space layout to be reconfigured flexibly, creating separate or open areas depending on daily needs.
