Operation Weserübung, Military campaign in Norway/Denmark
Operation Weserübung was a German military offensive during World War II that attacked Norway and Denmark simultaneously. The campaign combined airborne transport, naval movements, and rapid landings with the goal of bringing both countries under German control.
The operation began on April 9, 1940, and resulted in the occupation of both countries by Germany. It was one of the fastest military conquests of the early war years and fundamentally changed control over the Scandinavian region.
It has had significant historical discussions regarding its influence on WWII.
Today you can visit remnants and memorial sites in Norway and Denmark to understand the impact of this campaign. Various museums and historical locations document the military operations and occupation period.
This was the first large-scale use of paratroopers to capture an enemy capital. The operations in Oslo and other cities marked a new form of warfare that had not been attempted in this way before.
