1994 Winter Olympics, Sports event in Norway
The 1994 Winter Olympics took place in Lillehammer and brought together athletes from more than 60 countries competing across winter sports. The event used a combination of newly built and existing sports facilities spread throughout the region to accommodate disciplines ranging from ice skating to skiing.
These Winter Games marked a shift in the Olympic calendar, taking place two years after the previous Winter Olympics instead of the traditional four-year gap. This change was implemented to separate the summer and winter competitions into different years permanently.
The event is remembered for the participation of figure skater Nancy Kerrigan.
The venues in and around Lillehammer remain active today, hosting regular national and international competitions as well as training sessions. Visitors can explore the grounds and view several of these sports facilities firsthand.
These Games were the first Olympic event to be broadcast live on the internet, marking a milestone in digital sports coverage. This early online presence helped make the event accessible to a worldwide audience in an entirely new way.
