Dovre National Park, National park in Innlandet county, Norway
Dovre National Park is a protected area on a high plateau in the Innlandet region with peaks rising to around 1700 meters. The terrain consists of wide plateaus and rounded mountains that can be reached through several valleys and access routes.
The park was established in 2003 to connect Rondane and Dovrefjell-Sunndalsfjella and protect their natural areas. This connection created a unified protected zone for the region's mountain landscape.
The Pilgrim Trail from Oslo to Trondheim runs through the park and draws walkers from around the world. The path connects people to the landscape and creates space for personal reflection as you move across the mountains.
The park has several entrances from Dovrefjell, Grimsdalen, Dombås and Folldal, with marked trails for different skill levels. For some activities, special conditions apply, so it's wise to check local conditions before visiting.
The area is home to wild reindeer whose origins trace back to the Ice Age and today serve as natural indicators of environmental change. These animals reveal through their behavior and distribution how the mountain landscape shifts with the seasons.
