Storsmeden

Storsmeden is a mountain in Dovre located within Rondane National Park, rising to 2016 meters in elevation. The summit features steep ridges and rocky slopes that climbers encounter on their way up.

The name Storsmeden comes from Norwegian and means 'the big blacksmith', reflecting metalworking traditions in the Dovre region. This naming connects the mountain to the area's industrial heritage.

Local mountaineering groups maintain several marked trails leading to Storsmeden's peak, preserving access for generations of Norwegian climbers.

The western ridge offers the main access to the summit and the best climbing season runs from June through September when snow melts. During these months, conditions are most stable for a safe ascent.

Storsmeden ranks as the eighth highest peak among 170 mountains within Rondane National Park, with a prominence of 275 meters.
