Sel Municipality, Administrative division in Gudbrandsdal, Norway
Sel is an administrative municipality in the Gudbrandsdal region and covers around 905 square kilometers in Innlandet county. The area includes several villages and settlements, with Otta and Bjølstad being among the most developed ones.
The municipality was created in 1908 following a separation from Vågå Municipality, and it expanded in 1965 when Heidal merged into it. These administrative changes shaped the area as it exists today.
The coat of arms shows a girl with a trumpet, referring to Prillar-Guri who warned local farmers during a significant moment in regional history. This figure remains central to how people here understand their community's identity.
Visitors can explore local churches, public roads, and schools managed by the municipality, along with different villages throughout the area. The best time to visit depends on weather conditions and seasons, as the region experiences a continental climate.
The territory includes sections of Rondane National Park featuring mountains and hiking trails that visitors often overlook. Nearby stands the Jørundgard Medieval Center, which connects to the literary legacy of Nobel laureate Sigrid Undset.
