Rondvassbu, Tourist cabin in Sel Municipality, Norway
Rondvassbu is a mountain cabin at the southern end of Rondevatnet lake, surrounded by tall peaks including Storronden and Rondslottet reaching about 2178 meters. The facility provides 128 sleeping places across multiple buildings with showers and drying facilities.
The mountain cabin was founded in 1903 and purchased by Den Norske Turistforening in 1929, becoming the largest DNT accommodation in the Rondane mountains. This transformation made it a major hub for mountain travelers in the region.
The cabin is part of Norway's DNT network and connects visitors to a tradition of shared mountain life. Dormitory-style sleeping arrangements and communal dining shape the daily experience for guests.
Access to the cabin is restricted from May to June for wildlife protection reasons, as reindeer herds gather in the area during their breeding season. Visitors should plan their trip for other times of year and bring warm clothing, as mountain weather changes quickly.
During the bird migration season, visitors can spot rare Arctic bird species traveling between Scandinavia and Africa. This natural activity makes the lake and its shoreline an important observation point for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts.
