Oslo Botanical Garden, Botanical garden in Tøyen, Norway
Oslo Botanical Garden is a garden in Tøyen containing around 4,500 plant species spread across different sections like an arboretum, rock garden, and systematic garden. Each area is themed and marked with information boards to help visitors learn about the plants.
The garden was founded in 1814 and was connected to the University of Oslo from the start. Over two centuries, it has served as a place for botanical research and saving plant species.
The systematic section lets visitors see how different plant families relate to each other through organized layouts and information signs. This arrangement helps people understand the connections within the plant world in a straightforward way.
Visitors can walk through the different garden areas on clearly marked paths that are easy to navigate. Guided tours in English and Norwegian happen every Sunday from July to September and last about an hour without needing to book ahead.
The Victoria House and Palm House are heated greenhouses where tropical and subtropical plants are cared for during Norwegian winters. These special glass structures show how botanists recreate climates to keep rare plants alive.
