The building was designed by architectural firm White and opened in 1990 with King Olav V in attendance. A connection to the neighboring arena was later added, further shaping the urban landscape.

The upper floors offer views of the city and showcase modern Norwegian architecture through an exterior glass elevator system. Visitors can experience the building's innovative design elements firsthand.

The hotel features about 600 rooms in various categories for different needs. Access from the station is direct, and the location makes orientation easy for arrivals.
